Essential Legal Tools for Artists

A Two-Part Fall Workshop Series with California Lawyers for the Arts

(San Diego)

PART TWO

Contracts, Agreements & Licensing: Protecting Your Work

Featuring Guest Attorney Sam Mazzeo

Tuesday, October 20, 2026 | 6:00–7:30 PM

Join California Lawyers for the Arts for the second workshop in our Fall Art & Law Workshop Series, focused on helping artists better understand the contracts and agreements that shape their creative work.

This practical, attorney-led workshop will explore the basics of commissions, collaborations, licensing, usage rights, ownership, payment terms, and contract negotiations. We’ll break down common terms artists encounter, discuss red flags to watch for, and explore what to consider before signing an agreement or giving someone permission to use your work.

The goal is simple: help artists understand what they’re agreeing to, what rights they may be giving away, and when it may be time to seek legal advice.

This workshop will be presented in person @WOO! Studios San Diego: 2212 Main St, San Diego, CA 92113
