Art Law Basics: Workshop and Community Mixer
Art Law Basics for Artists is a FREE introductory workshop and community mixer designed to build practical awareness around legal issues that impact artists, creatives, and arts administrators in San Diego
A healthy and informed arts community creates a stronger, more sustainable creative workforce. While creativity is at the heart of artistic practice, understanding how to navigate contracts, and protecting your creative work is just as important. Whether you are an artist or someone who works with and hires artists, this event is for you.
Presented by California Lawyers for the Arts (CLA) in collaboration with HEARTSpace, the event will feature Sam Mazzeo of A Better Professional Corp, who will lead an accessible overview of art law, focusing on common legal considerations artists encounter throughout their careers.
In addition to the workshop, participants will learn about CLA’s legal services, special programs, and training opportunities. The event will also include a facilitated community conversation, offering space for artists and arts organizations to share where additional legal support, resources, or guidance are needed. We’ll even play a bit of Art Law Trivia to keep things exciting!
This gathering is designed to foster connection, dialogue, and shared insight—helping inform future legal resources and support for San Diego’s creative community.
Whether you’re just beginning to encounter legal questions or looking to strengthen your knowledge while building community, we invite you to join us for this informative and welcoming event.
