Legal 101: The Basics of Art Law

Join California Lawyers for the Arts for the first workshop in our Art & Law Workshop Series, designed to give artists practical legal tools for protecting their creative work and navigating their professional practice.

In this accessible, attorney-led workshop, we’ll explore some of the legal foundations every artist should understand, including copyright, intellectual property, ownership, fair use, trademarks, trademarks,contracts and more! We’ll look at how these issues show up in real-world creative practices and help participants identify common legal questions and situations where seeking legal support may be important.

Whether you’re a visual artist, filmmaker, musician, writer, performer, or multidisciplinary artist, this workshop is an opportunity to build a stronger understanding of the legal side of your creative practice
