How can artists monetize their creative work while protecting their rights and maintaining control over how their work is used?
Led by San Diego attorney Kayla Jimenez, this practical workshop will explore the legal and business considerations involved in turning creative work into potential income. We’ll look at the different ways artists may share, sell, license, or otherwise commercialize their work, and the agreements that can shape those opportunities.
Topics will include assignments, licensing agreements, work-for-hire agreements, gallery agreements, and online Terms of Service and End User License Agreements (EULAs). Participants will learn how different agreements can affect ownership, control, compensation, and future use of their work—and what to consider before entering into them.
This workshop will help artists better understand the terms they are agreeing to and develop greater confidence in setting and negotiating terms around the use, sale, reproduction, and licensing of their creative work. Whether you’re an emerging artist navigating your first professional opportunity or an established artist looking to better understand your existing agreements, this workshop offers practical tools for managing the business side of a creative practice.
